A BODY found by a road near Morpeth has been identified as missing Morpeth woman Valerie Brown.
Police cordoned off part of the A196, east of Morpeth, after the discovery just before 5.25pm yesterday (Thursday).
Investigations into the cause of death have begun, although an initial postmortem examination proved inconclusive, with further tests being carried out.
And today, police named the woman as Mrs Brown, 45, and from the Morpeth area.
She had been missing since Saturday, last being seen in the Guidepost area.
A police spokesperson said: “However, police are not looking for any third party in connection with this death and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”
The section of road, between Shadfen and Dunces Houses, was closed for a number of hours to allow for an investigation of the scene to take place, being re-opened this morning.
