Teenage girl raped in Northumberland park

Police have launched an investigation after a teenage girl was attacked from behind and raped in a Northumberland park.

The 16-year-old victim was walking through People’s Park, in Ashington, when the attack happened, between 6pm and 7pm on Wednesday.

The male is described as being in his late 20s, around 5’6” tall, medium build with very short dark hair. He was wearing a dark tracksuit and blue Nike Air trainers.

Detective Sergeant Sandra Tiffin said: “We’re asking for help from the community and would ask for anyone with information about the incident to contact officers. While we’re treating this as an isolated incident we do have extra patrols in the area.”
