Two houses burgled after doors left unlocked

TWO homes were burgled in Ashington and Bedlington within the space of 24 hours after their owners left doors open overnight.

The first theft took place on Saturday, August 27, between 1.30am and 4.30am.

Thieves took a mobile phone, cash and a hi-fi system after sneaking into a house in Gladstone Terrace, Bedlington, through an unlocked patio door.

And between midnight and 7am the day after, thieves got into a house in Parkside Court, Ashington, through an unlocked door.

They stole a Toshiba laptop computer, a digital camera and two mobile phones.

Inquiries are continuing into the two burglaries, and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 03456 043043 ext 69191.

The burglaries have prompted officers to remind residents to ensure their doors and windows are secure before going to bed.

Home-owners are also advised to lock their windows, doors, garages and sheds when leaving their homes for any period of time.
