TWO people were arrested this week after cars were damaged in Ashington.
At 3.15am on Tuesday December 18, police were called to Coupland Road in the town, and when officers attended and a man aged 27 and a 23-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
It’s believed that the tyres on 11 cars were damaged with a sharp implement.
Ashington Neighbourhood Inspector Barrie Joisce said: “Mindless damage like this not only causes a lot of anguish and inconvenience but it can be costly, and is particularly distressing at this time of year.
“We understand the concerns incidents such as this cause in the community and extra patrols are taking place in the area to reassure people.
“Police attended the area quickly and made two arrests at the scene, these two are currently in custody while the investigation continues.
“Residents did exactly the right thing by reporting suspicious activity straight away and I’d urge anyone with information to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
