FRAUDSTERS have been trying to sell fake advertising space in a Northumbria Police publication.
The offender claimed to be selling advertising space in the police magazine.
The caller hung up before any details were passed on.
Police are urging anyone who receives a call not to divulge any personal information and to contact police or Trading Standards.
Morpeth Neighbourhood Sergeant David Simpson, pictured, said “Northumbria Police does not ask for donations from members of the public or businesses and does not canvas for advertising.
“If you receive a call of this nature, it is not legitimate.
“Just because a caller says they’re from the police doesn’t necessarily mean they are, and we’d always urge people to check that the caller is genuine, if they are they won’t mind being asked for ID.
“If still in any doubt ring the company they claim to be from and check.
“We’d urge anyone with information on who might be responsible for these calls to contact police.”
The warning is part of Northumbria Police’s ‘If in doubt – keep them out’ campaign.
Anyone with information into the scam should contact police on 03456 043043 ext 69191.
