Students have been honouring a popular children’s author by getting into the mindset of his characters.
Pupils at Shanklea Primary School, in Cramlington, spent a week celebrating the work of writer Roald Dahl and illustrator Quentin Blake. The whole week was spent celebrating 50 years of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with a live link to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane with Quentin and Michael Rosen.
Last Friday, the school held a Roald Dahl Day with youngsters attending dressed up as characters from the story and other Roald Dahl books.
And they also helped create a special Roald Dahl type menu for lunch.
Children in Key Stage 2 will be entering the Phizz Whizzing competition to write a poem or story in the style of Roald Dahl for the Young Writers.
The winners of the competition have their work published in a book which will be available to buy in shops.
