A CRAMLINGTON man is about to take on three runs over as many weekends to raise money for charity.
Darren McCafferty scaled three peaks last year to raise more than £400 for the Alzheimer’s Society, and now the 30-year-old has set himself the target of running three events on three weekends for three different charities.
His hat-trick of runs begins with the three-mile Spartan Race at Ripon in North Yorkshire this Sunday.
After that will come the Great North Run from Newcastle to South Shields and the Great Cumbrian Run, starting in Carlisle.
“The races I’m doing are the Spartan Race, Great North Run and the Cumbrian half-marathon, and I have raised about £500 already,” he said.
“I’m trying to raise as much money as possible and set myself a gruelling task.
“I picked these three challenges as I really like to push myself in any sports, from gym to playing football, and I wanted to raise money for charity as it helps changes people’s lives.”
Darren will be raising money for Cancer Research, Cash For Kids and Help For Heroes.
“These are charities that are close to people’s hearts and are good charities,” he added.
