A project helping bridge the gap between the young and old in Blyth has picked up a regional award.

The work at Silx Teen Bar won the Intergenerational award at the sixth annual PoSBO Awards hosted by Youth Focus North East at the Baltic in Gateshead.

The group, who were also shortlisted in the Best Youth and Participation awards, beat off competition from Northumbria University to win the intergenerational award.

A spokesperson said: “This means so much to us as all of our youth workers and young people have worked incredibly hard. Just to be recognised in three categories for the brilliant work we have done was such an achievement in itself and the young people were so happy.”

“The whole night from start to finish was incredible and credit must go to the talented Steering Group from Youth Focus North East who organised the event.

“We are overjoyed to have won.”
