A COUPLE celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary have spread the joy by raising more than £700 for charity.

William and Agnes Stobbs, both 82, of Newsham Road in Blyth, took the unusual step of asking their friends and family not to buy them presents to celebrate, but instead donate any money they would have spent to the Blyth branch of the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) and the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

The couple presented two cheques for £365 to Edna Charlton and Olive Robinson, of the RNIB, and Staff Sergeant Scott Meaharry and Captain Ian Stobbs on behalf of The Soldiers’ Charity, at their home on Tuesday.

William and Agnes said they were grateful to everyone who made a donation.
