Entrepreneurial Bedlington pupils have shown they have just the ingredients for business success.

Students at Bedlingtonshire Community High School were offered the chance to take part in a Make £5 Grow event at the Alnwick Garden Christmas Market, sponsored by Virgin Money.

Each participant in the programme was given £5 to start up a business of their choice and a create a product to sell at the market last month.

Five Year 9 girls who were chosen to represent Bedlingtonshire High decided to pool their money and create a small business together, giving a combined £25 start-up fund.

Their Bake My Day business offered cupcakes for sale, as well as running a raffle.

And the result couldn’t have been better, with every cupcake sold at the market on November 18.

The girls made a £60 profit on their investment.
