SEVEN children’s centres are now being managed by Action for Children after the charity impressed Northumberland County Council with its bid for the contract.

The Sure Start centres in Ashington, Bedlington, Choppington, Lynemouth, Morpeth, Newbiggin and Pegswood are now being looked after by the organisation, serving more than 5,000 children under the age of five.

The centres provide a range of services in partnership with health and education providers as well as several partnerships with day care providers.

Action for Children will also now manage Bedlington Nursery and playgroups in Bedlington Station, Choppington and Pegswood.

Children’s services manager Gill Physick said: “We’re really excited about this new contract and all my colleagues are looking forward to meeting our new children and families.”

Early years co-ordinator at the council Jonathon Brown, added: “We’re delighted to have found a provider with such an excellent track record in delivering children’s centre services.”
