TODDLERS in Cramlington now have a brand new outdoor play area to enjoy, thanks to a county councillor stepping in to pick up the bill.
Wayne Daley agreed to help after learning that inspectors from the Office for Standards in education had suggested that Cramlington Kids Club improve its outdoor play area.
Coun Daley, councillor for Cramlington North, was approached by the childcare charity’s unit manager, Helen Welsh, to see if he could assist with funding.
The work, funded by £17,000 from Coun Daley’s members’ small schemes fund, has now been completed, much to the delight of the 380 youngsters who use the centre, at Eastlea School in Northburn.
Ms Welsh said: “I am absolutely delighted to have achieved our goals and by having our play area developed with Coun Daley’s assistance.
“Together, we have provided opportunities for children from our community to experience, explore and enjoy the new play equipment.”
Coun Daley said: “I was delighted to fund this scheme for the kids club because it offers affordable childcare to many local families, and I have seen at first hand how much people rely on them to help their work-life balance.
“The new play facilities are great fun, and the money will have long-term benefits by creating a safe and stimulating outdoor play site in the Northburn area.”
