WANSBECK MP Ian Lavery swapped Whitehall for the white stuff to mark the United Nations food and agriculture organisation’s World Milk Day.

Mr Lavery visited Rascals nursery in Newbiggin to act as milk monitor for the day and listened in as children were taught about the benefits of drinking the dairy product.

He said: “I understand the important role that milk plays in contributing to a healthy and balanced diet for children.

“I welcome the fact that free milk is widely available to children under five years of age and would like to see that extended to include children over five.”
