TWO Ashington High School students have secured places on one of the most popular apprenticeship courses in the country.

Alex Thompson and Michael Appleby from Ashington High School beat tough competition to land themselves the sought-after positions with engineering firm Rolls-Royce, starting in September.

Both 16-year-olds have studied engineering at the high school and Alex has gone on to take an AS-level in product design.

Headteacher Rob Kitching said: “We are delighted that Alex and Michael have succeeded in such a competitive field.

“It is their hard work which has led to their success, and I am sure that they will thrive in the future.”

“Congratulations to Alex and Michael for their achievement and we wish them every success in their new careers.”
