AN ANNUAL service commemorating Emily Davison was held last week on the centenary of the death of the Northumberland-born suffragette.

The service, held on International Women’s Day, in St Mary’s Church in Morpeth, launched a programme of events to mark the 100 years since Emily made the ultimate sacrifice for women’s rights as she stepped in front of the King’s horse in the Derby at Epsom racecourse.

The service was followed by a procession to Emily’s grave to lay flowers, while the Werca’s Folk women’s choir sang the suffragette anthem ‘March of the Women’.
