MEMBERS of the public are being given the chance to find out more about offshore renewable energy at a special event in Blyth this weekend.
On Saturday, the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec) in Blyth, in partnership with Shepherd Construction is opening its doors between 9am and noon to give people the option of finding out more about the centre and its work.
Narec corporate development executive Helen Edge said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to visit Narec and look around its state-of-the-art facilities for offshore renewable energy technologies.
“It will be a great chance for people to learn more about what Narec does and see what it takes to construct a large scale development.
“In recent years Narec has received over £150m of investment to build world leading facilities to accelerate the development and deployment of offshore renewable energy technologies in the UK.
“It is a great asset not only for the region but for the UK as a whole, and we are delighted to be able to open our doors to show members of the public what it is we do and are planning to do in the near future.”
This event is being hosted in partnership with Shepherd Construction Ltd, and is part of a UK-wide Open Doors Weekend organised by UK Contractors Group (UKCG).
Activities for children are planned for the day.
Entrance is free, but people are asked to register their interest in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (01670) 357338.
