A new campaign to promote civil engineering has been launched in Morpeth.

The This is Civil Engineering campaign, developed by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), was launched in association with Birse Civils, the Environment Agency and Northumberland County Council at the Morpeth Flood Alleviation scheme site at High Stanners.

The campaign is designed to demonstrate examples of civil engineering through the display of banners both during construction and immediately following completion of works.

The Environment Agency and Northumberland County Council are working in partnership to fund a £21million flood scheme to reduce the risk of flooding in Morpeth.

The Morpeth scheme has been designed by Halcrow and is being constructed by Birse Civils.

It is expected to be completed in autumn 2014.
