Chance to have say on flood prevention

NEWSHAM residents are being invited to a drop-in event to find out what is being done to prevent flooding in their neighbourhood.

The Environment Agency is hosting the event at Blyth Town Football Club’s Sandringham Drive clubhouse between 3pm and 7pm on Monday.

People will be able to talk to staff and view the options for reducing the risk of flooding to their homes from Newsham Pond after heavy rainfall.

Project manager Alex Davies said: “We want to talk to residents and get their views on how we can best reduce their flood risk.

“Residents may have information about flooding issues which could be useful to the project.”

Funding for the work is set to be provided by the Environment Agency’s regional flood defence committee.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust, which manages Newsham Pond, and the county council will also be represented.
