A great grandmother from Bedlington has turned her life around after taking part in special exercise classes.

Over the years Kathleen Barron has suffered a number of medical complaints that negatively impacted on her health and wellbeing.

Her health deteriorated several years ago after suffering a series of mini strokes and discovering she had angina, diabetes and smoking-related chronic obstructive pulmonarydisease (COPD).

But the 60-year-old has now turned her lifestyle around thanks to exercise classes run by Age UK Northumberland.

The classes at the Round House in Ashington include a series of physical activities and also the ancient martial art of Qigong, which integrates physical postures with breathing techniques.

Kathleen said: “I attend two classes a week, and since starting in October last year my health has really improved.

“I was not very active before, but I now look forward to going to the classes.

“I have never looked back, I feel so much better and healthier.”
