A SERIES of free sports sessions is being held this week at leisure centres across the county to mark the arrival of the Olympic torch in the UK.

Taster sessions will be available in a wide range of sports including archery, boccia, diving, judo, synchronised swimming, taekwondo and volleyball.

Northumberland County Council has joined forces with sports centres, clubs and societies to run the Give it a Go programme.

It is open to all ages and will run for five weeks.

Neil Bradbury, the council’s executive member for leisure, said: “Sport is not just for elite athletes, and in the run-up to the Olympics we are running the Give it a Go programme to make it as easy as possible for local people, regardless of their age, to try out new sports, get active and have some fun.”

Taster sessions will be on offer at leisure centres in Ashington, Blyth, Cramlington, Newbiggin, and Morpeth.
