Young pirates overran Newbiggin when they came ‘ashore’ for a fun day.

Junior pirates from the gang of Pete the Pirate took over Newbiggin Maritime Centre when they carried out a quest to locate the Lost Dolphin.

The activity – organised by ORCA – also had an educational theme, giving the youngsters an insight into which sea creatures may or may not be found off Newbiggin.

Armed with an old treasure map, the young pirates went from beach to shore before finally locating the lost porpoise.

A total of 60 young pirates took part in the event, each being presented with a certificate and goody bag.

Next on the ORCA agenda is the Big Watch Weekend on July 27 and 28. For more visit www.orcaweb.org.uk
