THE wet weather failed to dampen the spirits of those enjoying the fun activities at the Hirst Park Middle School summer fair in Ashington last week.

The event was officially opened by local MP Ian Lavery and Trevor Swan, executive director of strategy and standards at the Ashington Learning Partnership.

The event was organised by Hirst Park Friends and all visitors made the most of the afternoon by taking part in various activities.

David Godfrey, principal at Hirst Park Middle School, said: “It was a fantastic and successful afternoon in so many ways.

“The Hirst Park Friends have worked so hard pulling the wider community together, it’s great to be raising money for school funds but more importantly, families are spending quality time in school together.”
