A YOUTH organisation has launched a large fundraising drive.

Northumberland Clubs for Young People (NCYP) – which provides clubs and projects for more than 9,000 young people in Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle – raised more than £11,000 at its gala dinner.

The event, attended by 150 guests, marks the start of a series of events planned for 2012 to raise funds for the charity.

Jon Niblo, chief executive of NCYP, said: “The evening ran like clockwork and will be a hard act to follow for the future fundraising events planned for this year.

“The Assembly Rooms were wonderful hosts and we are absolutely delighted with the amount of money raised.

“Charities like ourselves have suffered in these austere times and its events like this which enable us to keep doing the work we do by providing the funds necessary to support a range of youth clubs and projects across the region.”

Joanna Reed and Nick Manson, of Mansons Property Consultants, organised the event.

Nick said: “As ever it was a superb evening.

“Everyone dug deep into their pockets and the money we raised will have massive impact on sustaining the charity over the next year.

“In 2011 we raised more than £50,000 in total and following the unprecedented success of our recent evening at the Assembly Rooms, we are well on target to beat last year’s total.”
