Soldiers from south east Northumberland took on a charity bike ride to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund.

Members of Z company, the 5th Battalion of the Roay Regiment of Fusiliers, have cycled 85 miles from Berwick to Cramlington over two days to raise £500 for the charity.

Lance Corporal Owen Pringle, from Blyth, who has recently returned from serving in Afghanistan alongside his regular counterparts, said: “It was very hard to achieve and at times gruelling, but we are a team and pushed each other and all completed the ride in aid of a charity close to our hearts.

“I’d like to thank everyone who donated and all the people that waved and cheered giving us a much needed boost as we passed through Northumberland.”
