FUNDRAISERS Michael and Kim Sweeney have had their success in raising more than £25,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund acknowledged.

This year, Elswick all Arms Branch of the Royal Artillery Association based at 203 Battery 101 Regiment Royal Artillery (V), based in Cowpen Road, Blyth, handed out three gifts of £50 each.

Benefiting this year were Michael and Kim Sweeney, who have raised more than £25,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund in memory of their son, also named Michael, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010, as well as Ronald ‘Spike’ Millican and Percy Norris both, ex-gunners with more than 60 years service between.

The presentation was attended by charity president Major Derek W Fairbairn, chairman Ray Nash and treasurer Tom Pringle at Blyth’s Thomas Knight Care home, were Spike is a resident.
