A Christmas reading challenge is now underway where children can unlock an online video once they have borrowed three books from a library.

The new event, which runs until January 6, follows the Summer Reading Challenge which introduced children to fantastical creatures from the world of legend and mythology.

Coun Val Tyler, policy board member for community infrastructure and culture, said: “To keep children’s imagination alive they need to keep reading, and what nicer way than cuddling up on a cold winter’s day with a book.

“Along with all the celebrations there’s plenty of time over the Christmas period to read some of the latest titles and find out everything else our libraries have to offer.”

All children need to take part is to update their reader profile via http://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk or through the ‘Join-in’ section.
