Ten teenagers braved the North Sea during their half term break to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.

Emily Wharton, 17, arranged the event to raise money for the North East Children’s Cancer Charity after her best friend, 16-year-old Sophie Brown, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in November 2013.

Sophie is still receiving treatment, but Emily and her friends, who all attend St Benet Biscop High School, were so impressed with the RVI and the treatment she is receiving that they wanted to do something in return.

Emily’s fundraising events to date have raised £2,117.
