Parents in North Shields are being given the opportunity to take their children to a free workshop about birds at the town’s Pets at Home store to support this year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

The Coast Road Retail Park shop will be hosting the workshop tomorrow (Friday) to teach youngsters how to care for their feathered friends and provide all the information they need to get involved in the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds event.

More than half a million people from across the UK are set to take part in the birdspotting marathon by counting the birds to be seen outside their homes this weekend.

The workshop, from noon to 12.30pm, will explain teach about the different variety of birds, with spotters’ guides and stickers.

There will also be the chance to make a bird mask to take home, and to learn about looking after wild birds in the correct way.
