Commonwealth Games gold medallist Craig Heap has been giving tips to youngsters at a county school.
The Olympic Games gymnast star visited Astley Community High School in Seaton Delaval as part of the school’s participation in the Sky Sports: Living for Sports scheme.
Craig talked to a group of Year 9 girls to help boost confidence, change behaviours, improve life skills and increase attainment.
He also held a practical session to get the students to think about teamwork and then enjoyed a game of rugby league with the Year 9 girl’s squad where they were also joined by England rugby union star Katy Storie.
Astley’s rugby academy coach Lee Carbutt said: “As a school we decided the Year 9 girls group was a good one for Craig to work with as the girls have had success and disappointment this year and part of the project is to ensure we come back stronger for it next season.
“I would like to personally thank Katy and Craig for coming in and delivering the project.”
Craig said: “From the moment I arrived in the school I was made to feel very welcome by staff and students and knew I would be in for a great day.”
