Golden guide’s decade of help for over 50s

A free countywide guide for the over 50s is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

The Golden Guide was launched in 2006 to provide information, advice and listings on services and activities across Northumberland.

It is updated every year, with information on leisure, health, money, care and the home, offering practical support, as well as suggestions of how to be more active and stay in touch with the community.

This year, 1,000 extra copies of the guide have been produced, and there is a new easy-to-use online version.

Editor Heather Alabaster said: “We’re delighted to have reached such a milestone.

“It’s a massive fund-raising task to produce it every year so I’d like to say a great big thanks to everyone for reading it, using it and supporting it.”

The booklet is supported by Northumberland County Council, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Age UK Northumberland.

The guide is available from care teams, libraries, GP surgeries, Carers Northumberland, CAB, Healthwatch, Royal Voluntary Service Centres, Wansbeck CVS and selected Boots Pharmacies.

It can be posted free by calling (01670) 784821, or online at www.alabasterpublishing.co.uk/goldenguide
