A YOUNG girls’ group in Blyth collected almost 20,000 stamps to raise money for a relief organisation.

The rainbows, brownies and guides from the Blyth Division stepped up to the challenge of collecting as many tamps as possible over a two-month period.

And a total of 19,308 were collected in support of the International Support Development and Emergency Fund, managed by Girlguiding’s Trefoil Guild.

Marjorie Ridge, Northumberland’s Trefoil Guild chairman, said she was delighted with the groups efforts.

“A big thank you to everyone for this magnificent effort,” she said.

Meanwhile Girlguiding in Northumberland is appealing for volunteers to be a leader.

Anyone interested should contact Ann McDougall on (01670) 735036.

The organisation offers various activities and opportunities.

Membership of the Trefoil Guild is also open to anyone over the age of 18 years.
