Health trust looks for 40 new nurses

A health trust is looking for 40 nurses to work in general and community hospitals in Northumberland and North Tyneside.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its teams which provide compassionate care to elderly patients in hospital.

This is a really exciting time to join Northumbria Healthcare

The trust is looking to recruit both registered general nurses and mental health nurses, who specialise in looking after the growing number of patients living with dementia and other mental health issues such as depression, all at Band 5.

The expansion is part of the trust’s continuous investment in its existing hospitals which, after the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital opens in Cramlington this summer, will continue to treat the majority of patients.

The trust’s general hospitals at Hexham, North Tyneside and Wansbeck will become centres of excellence for patients to receive high quality, planned and on-going care and rehabilitation and will each have dedicated elderly care assessment centres to care for vulnerable, elderly patients in their own communities.

The trust is inviting anyone interested in the roles to a drop-in event on Thursday, April 23, at 6pm to 8pm at Northumbria House, Cobalt Business Park, North Tyneside, to find out more about the posts on offer.

Elaine Henderson, chief matron for medicine and emergency care at the trust, said: “This is a really exciting time to join Northumbria Healthcare.

“Not only are we leading the way nationally and changing the way we deliver emergency care, we are transforming our general and community hospitals to become expert centres where all planned and on-going care takes place. These will be central to local communities and be where most patients will receive their care.

“With an ageing population, most of our patients are elderly and we are committed to treating them with compassion, empathy and respect.

“We are looking for people who share our values, who recognise that every patient is a person and is passionate about not only caring for them physically, but providing emotional support.”

The nurses will work at the trust’s general hospitals and community hospitals at Berwick, Alnwick, Rothbury, Blyth and Haltwhistle and the Whalton Unit at Morpeth.
