Hilarie Tucknott from Bedlington was unanimously chosen to lead BPW (Business and Professional Women UK) for another 12 months at this year’s national conference.

It took place at the Station Hotel and she was accompanied at the opening by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Hazel Stephenson, who spoke of the many influential women in the North East, past and present.

Keynote speaker, Dr Manisha Hadi from Kabul, spoke of the challenges facing Afghani women. The evening speaker was Penni Blythe of Morpeth, who talked of women of wit and wisdom from around the world.

A choir, Sea Glass Singers, sang traditional tunes and encouraged everyone to join in with the rounds.
