A grassroots football club has been honoured for its work in the community.

Officials from Seaton Delaval Dynamos Junior FC travelled to Wembley to attend the 2013 FA Community Charter Awards after winning the prestigious FA Charter Standard Club of the Year Award.

The club was set up in May 2009 by Rob Milburn and Neil Foster and now boasts four teams from under 11 to under 13 and is looking to set up a girls under 12 team.

Club representatives collected the award in front of football legends including Sir Geoff Hurst, Pat Jennings and Sir Trevor Brooking ahead of the FA Community Shield between Manchester United and Wigan Athletic.

Sir Geoff, said: “Seaton Delaval Dynamos truly embodies the spirit of a grassroots football club.

“The club are focused on not only teaching kids how to play the game, but how to play the game in the right way – with respect to other players and officials. Without volunteers at grassroots level our national game couldn’t exist.”
