Hundred’s of fundraisers donned their favourite musical outfits on Saturday night to take part in the St Oswald’s Hospice Midnight Walk.

The event, which was hosted by Real Radio’s breakfast show presenter Lisa Shaw, is expected to raise around £100,000 for the charity.

And Cramlington couple Jim and Doreen Scott, who found love during the Midnight Walk in 2010, officially opened this year’s event.

Doreen said: “We took part in the Midnight Walk in 2010 as friends.

“Jim said he was going to hold my hand so we didn’t get separated.

“We had a great time. The atmosphere was brilliant. Something else happened that night, we fell in love.

“As a result we were married in 2011. Jim was 72 and I was 65. It just shows you are never too old.”

The walkers also proved they were born to dance as they attempted to break the world record for the largest hand jive, made famous by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the 1978 film Grease.

They will find out next month if the attempt broke the record.

Walkers set off on the 10km walk from Newcastle Civic Centre, passing through the hospice grounds halfway though the route.
