A charity is appealing for oeple in Cramlington to help transform the lives of lonely older people.
Contact the Elderly is a charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and isolation among older people.
It is looking for volunteers to welcome a small group of elderly people into their home for a tea party, just one or two afternoons a year.
The charity aims to relieve the loneliness of those feeling isolated by organising free monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties.
Each guest is taken to the volunteer host’s home by a volunteer driver, where they join a group for tea, chat and companionship.
The charity is hoping to launch a new group in Cramlington, and is on the look out for volunteers.
Contact the Elderly’s north east development officer, Sheila Ryder, said: “The charity is committed to offering a lifeline of friendship to the oldest and loneliest people, but the opportunity to extend this lifeline to older people in Cramlington is currently under threat due to a real shortage of volunteer hosts in the area.”
