In praise of the NHS staff

In this day and age of complaint after complaint about the NHS and ambulance service, I feel obliged to put the other side of the coin, as it were.

Early in January my elderly mother fell in the house, resulting in a fractured wrist and cheek bone.

She was knocked out for a short while. As I tended to her my husband rang an ambulance and it arrived in four minutes – an outstanding time.

In that short time the handler talked to my husband, assessing the situation and giving helpful advice.

The crew were professional and dealt with my mother in a friendly manner.

She was transferred to Wansbeck A&E and whilst it took eight hours of tests, x-rays and investigations, we were kept informed at all times.

The department was extremely busy but we were treated with courtesy and respect.

As a retired nurse I fully appreciate the way things were dealt with. My grateful thanks to all concerned.

My mother was discharged after four days and the follow-up care from the community services has been first class.
