Jedwards make waves for seaside tradition

ABOUT 20 hardy – or foolhardy – souls braved bitterly cold waves for Blyth Lifeguard and Swimming Club’s annual North Sea dip.

This festive season’s event was given a celebrity theme, and those taking part dressed up as famous names including Elvis Presley, Pingu the penguin, Laurel and Hardy, Katie Price, Peter Andre and three sets of Jedwards.

Around 30 spectators also turned out at Blyth beach to cheer the dippers on as they defied a sea temperature of 8.3C to join in the fun.

The annual fancy dress award went to one of the Jedwards, alias Lauren Gordon and Jade Currie.

Club president Tom Thewlis presented certificates to all those taking part.

The latest festive dip was the 49th held by the club.
