A group of north east touring theatre companies has launched a joint venture in a bid to secure their long term futures.
Twine, the new project between Northumberland Theatre Company, Theatre Sans Frontieres, Theatre Hullabaloo, Unfolding Theatre, and The Empty Space, hope to change the way they sustain themselves and ensure touring theatre reaches more parts of the north east.
At the launch event it was announced that more than £10,000 has already been pledged towards a target of £90,000, which they are aiming to hit within three years.
Natalie Querol, from The Empty Space, said: “Twine’s structure and funding model is unique for touring theatres.
“We’re keen to encourage more audiences and people from the business community to involve themselves more deeply in this region’s rich arts and cultural offer.
“We are all passionate about touring theatre and the benefits it can bring to its audiences. Twine will strive to ensure its effects will be far-reaching into all parts of the north east.
“All the companies in Twine also tour beyond the region, showing other territories, both in the UK and overseas, the rich depth of theatrical talent we possess in the north east.”
Twine’s unique structure ensures all the theatre companies involved will maintain their own identities.
