CRAMLINGTON is set to be transformed into a festive wonderland today (Thursday) when the Christmas lights are officially switched on.

The cast from the Cinderella pantomime at Playhouse Whitley Bay will be joining Santa Claus, his reindeer, and shoppers for the Christmas lights switch on in the central mall at Manor Walks Shopping and Leisure at 4pm.

Families will be able to take a sleigh ride around centre, have their photograph taken with the four reindeer and enjoy Christmas carols and mince pies.

The event will also see the launch of Manor Walks’ first ‘Giving Tree’, which asks shoppers to buy or donate an extra gift which will be given to disadvantaged children in the county this Christmas.

Manor Walks’ centre manager, Bruno Coppola said: “Wrapped gifts can be left at the Giving Tree in Sainsbury’s, and all donations will be delivered to a local children’s charity in time for Christmas morning.”
