A family are raising money for a charity close to their hearts by turning their home into a shining beacon.

Debbie Turnbull and her family decorate their house, garden and fence in Chillingham Crescent, Ashington, in Christmas lights and decorations to raise money for Newbiggin RNLI lifeboat, with donation buckets on their fence.

They raise money for the RNLI every year after her brother died in a fishing accident 16 years ago.

A special event was held on November 30 for the switching on of the illuminations, which saw special guests including Micky Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Peppa Pig, raising £135 on the night.

Debbie, who switches the lights on from 5pm to 8pm each night, said: “This is a charity close to our hearts.

“My father collects at a local club and they’ve raised £14,000 over the years.”
