37-year-old stabbed after break-in bid

A man was left with a stab wound after an attempted break-in at a house in Cramlington.

Police were called to a disturbance at an address in Axminster Close at 12.35am on Saturday after receiving reports that two men believed to be armed with knives were trying to break into the property. A window at the property had been smashed.

Two men were found nearby. One of them, aged 37, had been stabbed and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been released.

Two men, aged 21 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, and a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

Officers are carrying out inquiries to try to establish what happened.
