A green-fingered gardener is celebrating after picking up a top award for the second time.

Mick Smith MBE, from Bedlington, received the Lady Astor President’s Club 2014 by the Pelargonium and Geranium Society.

The former society chairman was honoured for his work in not only setting up the society in 2009 but also for promoting gardening on a wider scale.

He received his award at a special presentation held by the society earlier this month.

Mick, who received his MBE for political services and his role with the Bedlington Fair, said: “I was shocked and stunned when I found out I’d won.

“It’s the second time I’ve won the cup.”
