CHILDREN at a Bedlington school ditched their school uniforms and instead dressed as pirates as part of a swashbuckling special themed day.
Youngsters at Bedlington West End First School donned eye patches, bandanas and hooks and carried swords to mark the end of the school’s pirate-themed writing week.
The hall was also transformed into a pirate ship, decorated with a range of medals and flags which pupils made at home.
This is the third year the school has held a themed week, which is designed to inspire the children to write.
Headteacher Jane Bushell said: “During the week we have found the children are really motivated to write more and be more expressive.”
