Bag snatched in Ashington

A WOMAN’S handbag was snatched as she walked through Ashington on Thursday, August 30.

The incident happened shortly after noon when a man ran past the 44-year-old victim in Pont Street and grabbed her bag.

The bag contained cash, an MP3 player, a mobile phone and personal items.

Police have arrested a 19-year-old local man on suspicion of theft.

Anyone who was in Pont Street and witnessed the incident is asked to call police on 101 ext 69191.
