Laura Barnett has been shortlisted for the national 2014 Housing Heroes Awards.

An apprentice has been shortlisted for a top housing award.

Blyth-based Laura Barnett has been shortlisted in the national 2014 Housing Heroes Awards, which showcase the people and teams doing exceptional work in the social/affordable housing sector.

The 20-year-old is one of six finalists in the ‘career development star of the year’ award.

Laura, an apprentice building surveyor, was nominated by her employer Places for People.

She said: “I have been very fortunate to receive great support from friends and colleagues which has made my career both rewarding and satisfying.

“I am enjoying working in the housing sector and hope to progress further in the future.”

Sue Dixon, quantity surveyor at Places for People, said: “We nominated Laura as she really is a shining star. She has a positive attitude to work and is always willing to learn.”

She added: “Laura is a real asset to the team and the organisation.

“We are delighted she has been recognised by the judges and we have our fingers crossed that she’ll be a winner on the night.”

The winners will be announced on Monday, June 23.
