Burglar fled after being caught in act
CRAMLINGTON residents are being reminded to keep their properties secure after an attempted burglary in the town this week.
Between 11.30pm and 11.46pm on Monday, a man got into a house in Dewsgreen through an open ground-floor window, but he was disturbed by the householder before he could steal anything and ran off empty-handed.
A second man was seen outside at the time.
The burglar is thought to have got into a silver four-wheel drive seen nearby.
He is described as being between 30 and 35 years old, 6ft tall, and of thin build, with short mousy hair showing beneath a grey fleece hat. He was wearing a grey jacket and grey trousers with side pokcets.
The second man is described as being between 40 and 45 years old, 5ft 10in tall and of medium build, with stubble on his face.
Inspector Trevor Oakley, of Cramlington police, said: “We are asking for help from the public to help us find those responsible.
“It was an upsetting experience for the householder to find someone in his home.
“We also want to remind residents to make sure their doors are kept securely locked and not to leave windows open in unoccupied rooms.
“Don’t make it easy for opportunist thieves to simply let themselves into your home.”
Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.
