Cadets swapped their flying boots for waders as they took part in an assault to help local wildlife.
The youngsters from Longbenton Air Cadets cleaned up a pond in New Hartley which is a protected site and known as a breeding ground for newts.
The pond was in need of some long overdue conservation work with the 13 to 19-year-olds getting stuck in to clear the pond.
Northumberland Are Countryside manager Frances Povey said: “The air cadets have helped with lots of different conservation projects over the years and done a great job.
“The job they’ve done at the pond is amazing and I am very grateful to them for giving their time to help.”
