A CAMPAIGN has been launched by health chiefs to help people plan affordable healthier meals.

Change4Life’s ‘supermeals’ were launched as part of a national campaign offering money off healthy ingredients such as fruit and vegetables and low fat yoghurts at more than 1,000 supermarket stores around the country.

And 100,000 copies of a new cookbook with celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott will be published, containing a month’s worth of popular, healthy recipes all for under £5.

NHS North of Tyne aims to help improve the health of residents through the national campaign, which encourages people to eat well, move more and live longer.

Dr Dawn Scott, public health consultant, said: “The campaign will give us all some great ideas enabling us to eat more affordable healthy meals.

“Making small simply changes as a family to eat well and be more active increases our chances of staying healthy in the future.

“By making very small changes, people of all ages can improve their health.

“Eating sensibly by incorporating plenty of fruit and vegetables into your diet can help to keep your body and health in good shape.

“I hope local families make good use of all the great offers, useful tips and recipe ideas available on the Change4Life website and in the new cookbook.”

Ainsley Harriott said: “This campaign is a great way to give people the tools and imagination they need to get back into the kitchen and give cooking a try.

“All you have to do is make an effort to sit down and pull together a simple meal plan and follow some handy cost effective recipe ideas from Change4Life.”
