Car parkchanges come into force in county

CHANGES affecting the length of stay in car parks and on-street parking places in Morpeth will begin next week.

Northumberland County Council has reviewed on and off-street pay and display tariffs throughout the county, following implementation of the new car parking strategy.

In Morpeth Newmarket East car park has been reduced to a maximum of three hour stay following consultation views, and Terrace car park is being reduced to short stay only, with a maximum of three hours stay.

The car park will continue to operate as long stay until the new Staithes Lane long stay car park is developed as part of a new supermarket development.

The principal of the new tariff structure is that town centre parking should be the shortest stay as the spaces are at a premium, but less central car parks and spaces will have more flexibility in terms of length of stay.

Car parks in Alnwick, Berwick and Hexham are also affected by the changes.
